santa cristina d'aro, costa brava

Around & About

Santa Cristina is a little village with a pretty square; it has an excellent supermarket, baker, butcher and fishmonger.

It is also ideally placed for exploring the Costa Brava - you can go  in all directions and find plenty of interest, both scenically and culturally. Apart from the beautiful coastline, Barcelona and Girona, there are many other attractions like the Dali museums, Roman ruins etc. There are two towns on the coast very close by and any number of others easily accessible, all quite different in character.

Platja d'Aro is a large bustling tourist resort with all the restaurants, night life, designer boutiques etc. that you would expect.  There are also beaches, an aqua sports centre and sailing.

Sant Feliu, is about 3 km away.  It is an old harbour town with a local population.  This is definitely the "locals' town".  There is a daily market in the main square specialising in fruit, vegetables and fish, which is run by the locals for the locals. On Sunday, it becomes a large, colourful, bustling market selling everything from clothes, shoes, linens to toys, CDs and fake football shirts.

Sports Facilities

  • Golf.  Excellent facilities are all around - we have a whole section on this

  • Tennis.  There are 4 hard courts less than 100 yards from the villa, and another 3 beautifully maintained clay courts, 1 hard court and 1 'paddel' court down at the clubhouse at the entrance to the golf estate.  You may play on these by booking and paying by the hour or you can buy a 1 or 2 week 'abono' which gives you unlimited use of the courts during that time.

  • Watersports.  San Pol, the beautiful sandy beach at S'Agaro, half way between Sant Feliu and Platja d'Aro, is the place for watersports.  From the beach you can waterski, windsurf, sail or pedalo.  You can also windsurf, sail or pedalo from Platja d'Aro or Sant Feliu.
    • Also at Platja d'Aro is the popular Aquadiver water amusement park

  • Go-karting is just outside Santa Cristina, on the old road to Castell d'Aro and Platja d'Aro.

  • Horse riding is in Santa Cristina

  • Mini golf is at both San Feliu and Platja

  • Pitch and putt.   At Solius, 2 km away, is a very fine 18-hole course - really a proper golf course in miniature.  There is a also another good 9-hole par-3 course at Mas Nou, on top of the hills outside Platja d'Aro, and a more conventional pitch and putt course in the town.

  • Walking and cycling.  The pine covered hills around Santa Cristina, offering spectacular views from the summits, are excellent for walking and mountain biking, and start 400m from the villa. Road cyclists will find lots of routes around the neighbouring towns and countryside, and there are plenty of dedicated cycle tracks, many of which are ideal for family outings.
